Returning to photography

Sometimes life leads us away from what we love… and sometimes it leads us back.

Twenty years ago, I fell in love with photography.

I studied photography at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, where I learned far more than how to operate a camera. College challenged me creatively, introduced me to lifelong friends, and gave me the confidence to build a business doing something I truly loved.

After graduation, I started my photography business in San Diego. Eventually, though, my heart pulled me back home to Rhode Island. My grandmother became ill, and spending time caring for my family felt more important than anything else. Looking back, I realize that caring for the people I love has always been a theme throughout my life.

Photography grew right alongside those chapters.

I built a wonderful business, opened studios on Main Street and Bellevue Avenue, and photographed so many incredible weddings, families, and children over the years. Eventually, I moved my studio home with every intention of opening another storefront later.

Then life had other plans.

When my son was born three and a half months early, everything changed overnight. His doctors instructed me to close my home studio so we could protect his fragile immune system during those first years. Like so many parents, I thought it would only be temporary.

Around that same time, my mom's health began to decline. What we first thought were simple falls eventually became an Alzheimer's diagnosis. Over the following years, caring for my family became my full-time priority.
I don't regret that decision for a second.

Those years also reminded me why photographs matter so much.

Some of my favorite photographs of my mom were taken with nothing more than my phone. We also made sure to schedule family portraits while we still had the chance. Today, those photographs are among my most treasured possessions. They remind me that pictures aren't just about how someone looked—they're about remembering the laughter, the love, and the people who shaped our lives.

As parents, we're all guilty of saying, "We'll do photos next year."

I'm guilty of it too.

My own children have changed so much since our last family session, and next week I've promised myself that I'm taking them out for new photographs. No more excuses. They're never going to be this little again, and I don't want to miss another chapter.

Coming back to photography has felt like coming home.

I've missed the conversations with families, watching children grow from year to year, celebrating engagements, weddings, and new babies, and reconnecting with clients who have trusted me for decades. Some of my families have been with me through the happiest seasons of my life and the hardest ones, and I've been honored to witness theirs as well.

As I step back into photography full-time, I'm more excited than ever for what's ahead.

Fall has always been my favorite season to photograph. The light is warmer, the colors are incredible, and families naturally slow down just enough to spend time together before the holiday season begins.

Whether you're looking for updated family portraits, senior photos, wedding photography, or professional headshots, I'd love the opportunity to help tell your story.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the past twenty years—and especially to those who waited patiently while I focused on my family.

I'm so happy to be back.

I can't wait to see where this next chapter takes us.
