Extended Family Photography

Because the Best Memories Are Made Together

There is something truly special about having the whole family together.

Whether you're gathering for a summer vacation, celebrating a milestone, welcoming a new baby, or simply realizing it's been far too long since everyone was in the same place at the same time, these moments deserve to be remembered.

As families grow, life gets busy. Children grow up, grandchildren arrive, careers take people in different directions, and sometimes loved ones live hours—or even states—apart. Finding a day when everyone can be together becomes more meaningful with each passing year.

I grew up in a large family, and some of my favorite memories are the times when everyone was together. The conversations, the laughter, the stories that get told over and over again, the kids running around, the grandparents watching with proud smiles—those are the moments that stay with us.

That's what I love most about extended family sessions.

Of course we'll capture the beautiful portrait where everyone is smiling at the camera, but I also look for the moments in between. The cousins laughing together. Grandpa holding a grandchild's hand. Siblings teasing one another. Parents watching their grown children interact with their own families. Those candid moments often become the photographs people treasure the most.

Whether your family is visiting Newport for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, returning for an annual tradition, or gathering close to home, I'd be honored to help preserve this chapter of your family's story.
Because years from now, these photographs won't just remind you who was there.

They'll remind you how it felt to all be together.

And those moments become more priceless with every passing year.

Celebrating Ninety Years with Family

A Weekend Filled with Generations, Gratitude, and Memories

Some family sessions celebrate a holiday. Others celebrate a milestone that only comes along once in a lifetime.

This wonderful family gathered in Little Compton to celebrate their matriarch's 90th birthday. With relatives traveling from near and far, they rented a beautiful home where everyone could spend the weekend together, making memories under one roof.

I love sessions like these because they allow the photography to become part of the celebration instead of another event to squeeze into a busy schedule. We photographed everyone together, then created smaller groupings of grandparents, siblings, grandchildren, and each individual family. By staying at the house, everyone felt comfortable, relaxed, and free to simply enjoy being together.

One detail that made this session especially meaningful to me was that the family's grandfather was a photographer himself.

As you can imagine, that came with a little extra pressure! He cared deeply about photography, asked thoughtful questions beforehand, and had a clear vision for what he hoped to capture. Knowing that someone with so much appreciation for the craft trusted me with his family was both exciting and humbling.

By the end of the session, his kind words meant more than I can describe. Hearing another photographer say they were genuinely happy with the experience and the photographs was an incredible compliment—one I'll always remember.

Moments like these remind me why I love photographing extended families. The portraits become more than pictures. They become part of a family's history. They're the photographs that will be displayed in homes, passed down to future generations, and looked back on long after the celebration is over.

Being invited to preserve a family's memories—especially for a milestone as meaningful as a 90th birthday—is a privilege I'll never take for granted.

A Family Reunion Full of Laughter

Every Family Celebrates a Little Differently

One of my favorite things about extended family sessions is that no two families are ever the same.

This wonderful family was visiting Rhode Island for a vacation and family reunion. Instead of focusing on dozens of individual groupings, they had one priority: capturing everyone together.
I loved that.

From the very beginning, they shared exactly what mattered most to them. They wanted photographs that reflected the joy of simply being together. They weren't looking for a perfectly choreographed session or a long list of formal portraits. They wanted to laugh, spend time with one another, and leave with photographs that captured the spirit of their vacation.
That clear sense of purpose made the entire session feel effortless.

As a photographer, I always have ideas and suggestions, but I also believe every session should reflect what matters most to the family in front of me. Some families want every possible combination of grandparents, siblings, cousins, and grandchildren. Others are happiest spending that extra time creating candid moments with everyone together.

Neither approach is right or wrong.

My job is to listen, understand what's most important to you, and create photographs that tell your story.

Looking through this family's gallery, you can almost hear the laughter. The hugs, the smiles, the playful moments, and the relaxed atmosphere all became part of the photographs. They weren't just documenting who attended the reunion—they were preserving what it felt like to spend that time together.

Those are the images that grow more meaningful every year.

Because long after the vacation is over, it's the joy of being together that you'll remember most.
