Love Found in Newport
When a Place Becomes Part of Your Story
Not every engagement session begins where a couple lives. Sometimes, it begins in the place where their story first unfolded.
I had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful couple during a visit back to Newport, a place that held a special meaning in their relationship. Both serving in the Coast Guard, they had met here, and before beginning the next chapter of their lives together, they wanted to preserve the memories of the city that first brought them together.
Although they weren't planning their wedding in Rhode Island, it felt incredibly meaningful to document this chapter where so many of their first memories were made. The sailboats, the harbor, the ocean breeze, and Newport's unmistakable nautical charm weren't simply a backdrop—they were part of their love story.
One of the things I enjoy most about photographing couples who are visiting from out of town is the relaxed energy they bring with them. Vacation has a way of helping people slow down, laugh a little more, and simply enjoy being together. There's less pressure, more spontaneity, and those genuine moments often become some of my favorite photographs.
As much as I love seeing my local families year after year, I also love knowing that vacations deserve to be remembered. Whether you're celebrating an engagement, an anniversary, or simply making memories together, traveling often marks a season you'll never experience quite the same way again.
Every place has a story.
Sometimes it's where you fell in love.
Sometimes it's where you said "yes."
And sometimes it's simply where you paused long enough to celebrate the journey before continuing on together.
I feel incredibly grateful that this couple chose me to preserve such a meaningful chapter of their story, and I hope that every time they look at these photographs, they're reminded not only of Newport—but of the place where their forever began.

The Best Sessions Are the Ones We Create Together
Some engagement sessions are memorable because of the location. Others are unforgettable because of the people.
This couple was an absolute joy to photograph. Both artists and graphic designers, they met in college and brought so much creativity to their session. They arrived with ideas of their own, but they were also excited to explore mine. That willingness to trust each other made the entire experience feel effortless.
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is that every session becomes a collaboration. I'll happily guide you every step of the way with locations, lighting, posing, and creative ideas—but I also love when couples bring pieces of themselves into the experience. Maybe it's a location that's meaningful to you, a pose you've always wanted to try, or simply a spontaneous moment that unfolds naturally.
Some of my favorite photographs have happened because a couple was willing to say, "Let's give it a try."
This session was filled with those moments. We experimented with different ideas, laughed through them together, and discovered images that neither of us could have planned on our own. Some were photographs I'd dreamed of creating for years. Others were ideas that came entirely from them. Together, they created a gallery that felt authentic, playful, and unmistakably theirs.
That's what I hope every engagement session feels like.
Not a checklist of poses.
Not a perfectly choreographed performance.
Just two people who are excited about the future, willing to be themselves, and open to creating something beautiful together.
When couples trust me enough to explore, and I trust them enough to let their personalities lead the way, that's when the magic happens. Those are the sessions that leave us both smiling long after the camera is put away—and the photographs become a reflection not just of how a couple looked, but of who they truly were together.
