There is something so special about photographing families. Whether I'm meeting a family on vacation or catching up with one I've photographed year after year, every session has its own story.
No two families are alike. Sometimes it's the location that makes the session unique. Other times it's the personalities, the little traditions, the way siblings interact, or the quiet moments between parents and their children. I love discovering those little things that make your family yours.
Family photos can feel stressful. Parents often worry about whether their children will cooperate, whether everyone will smile, or whether someone just isn't in the mood. The truth is, those worries are completely normal. My goal isn't to create a picture-perfect family—it's to create a space where everyone can relax, laugh, play, and simply enjoy being together.
Some of my favorite moments happen when everyone lets go of the pressure. That's when the genuine smiles appear, the hugs become a little tighter, the laughter gets louder, and the love you share shines through. Those are the moments that become treasured photographs.
Over the years, I've been continually inspired by the incredible patience, kindness, and love I see parents show their children during our sessions. Parenting is hard, and it's an honor to preserve this chapter of your family's story—the silly moments, the quiet moments, and everything in between.

Six Years of Laughter, Adventure, and Watching a Family Grow
Some of the greatest compliments I receive aren't five-star reviews—they're the families who come back year after year and invite me to document another chapter of their lives. This wonderful family has trusted me with their memories for the past six or seven years, and it has been such a joy to watch their children grow from little ones into the amazing kids they are today.
I first met them shortly after they welcomed their second child. They had experienced a studio session before, but decided to give on-location photography a try. Ever since then, we've made an adventure out of nearly every session.
One of the things I love most about working with this family is that every year feels a little different. We've explored some of Rhode Island's most beautiful locations together, from the sweeping waterfront at Colt State Park in Bristol to the sandy shores of Second Beach in Middletown. We've wandered through Newport, found charming little corners near historic landmarks, and even created portraits beside one of Rhode Island's iconic windmills. Every location tells a slightly different story while still feeling unmistakably them.
I think that's one of the reasons I enjoy photographing families outdoors so much. The location becomes part of your story. Some families love the beach because it's where they spend every summer together. Others are drawn to colorful parks, quiet walking paths, or open fields where children have room to run and simply be themselves. When we choose a location that means something to you, your photographs become more than beautiful portraits—they become memories of places that are already woven into your family's life.
If I had to guess, I'd say Colt State Park and the beach have become this family's favorites. They seem completely at home there. The kids can explore, everyone relaxes, and those genuine smiles appear without anyone having to force them. That's always my goal: creating an environment where your family can simply enjoy being together.
This particular session was photographed during Rhode Island's spectacular fall foliage season. Early October is one of my favorite times of year for family portraits. The leaves are bursting with rich reds, oranges, and golden yellows, while the sunlight takes on a warm, soft glow that photographers dream about. It's a season that adds incredible depth, color, and warmth to every image, and it's easy to see why so many families choose it for their annual portraits.
Of course, beautiful scenery only tells part of the story. What truly makes these photographs special is the love this family shares. They laugh easily, encourage one another, and never take themselves too seriously. Those authentic moments are what transform a portrait session into memories you'll treasure for years.
Over the years, this family has also given me one of the greatest gifts a small business owner can receive—their trust. They've referred me to other members of their family, including the husband's sister, whom I had the pleasure of photographing last year. There is no greater compliment than knowing someone enjoyed their experience enough to recommend me to the people they love most.
And honestly... can we appreciate just how perfectly everything came together during this session? The brilliant October foliage, the golden evening light, those adorable blonde-haired kiddos, and a family that genuinely enjoys being together—it was one of those sessions where everything aligned. It's the kind of New England fall portrait session photographers hope for and families remember forever.

Growing Together
Twelve Years of Memories, Milestones, and Life's Beautiful Little Moments
One of the greatest joys of being a family photographer is having the opportunity to grow alongside the families I photograph. This wonderful family has been part of my journey for more than twelve years, and looking back through our sessions feels like flipping through the pages of a family scrapbook.
It all began with their engagement session, followed by their beautiful wedding at Barrington Country Club. I still remember what a stunning bride she was and how excited they both were to begin their life together. Those are the kinds of moments that remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place—preserving the excitement of today while creating memories that become even more meaningful years later.
Since then, I've had the privilege of documenting so many chapters of their story. From welcoming their children to watching them grow into wonderful little people with personalities all their own, it's been an honor to be invited back year after year.
One of the things I love most about family photography is that no two sessions ever unfold exactly as planned—and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.
I still laugh when I think about the time their son, Wes, managed to fall into the ocean almost as soon as our beach session began. Mom was understandably worried that our session had been ruined before it had even started. Instead of letting it become stressful, we simply leaned into it. We got both pant legs wet so they matched, making it look completely intentional, and carried on with the session. Looking through the final gallery, you'd never know there had been a mishap at all.
That's one of my favorite parts of this job. Kids are wonderfully unpredictable. They get sandy, splash in the water, discover interesting rocks, decide they need to run instead of smile, or find themselves fascinated by everything except the camera. Rather than fighting those moments, I embrace them. Some of the sweetest photographs happen when we stop trying to make everything perfect and simply let childhood unfold naturally.
One memory with this family has stayed with me for years. Their son was only about two years old when he proudly picked a tiny flower and handed it to his mom. She was completely touched by the gesture. She carefully tucked it into her pocket and smiled, saying she was going to keep it forever. It was such a simple moment, but it perfectly captured the kind of love that exists within their family.
Those are the memories I treasure most. Yes, I love creating beautiful portraits, but I also love witnessing the quiet, genuine moments that might otherwise pass by unnoticed. The way a child reaches for a parent's hand, the look between two people who have built a life together, or the excitement of a little one giving their mom the very first flower they've ever picked—those are the photographs that mean even more as the years go by.
After more than a decade together, this family feels like old friends. Watching their children grow, celebrating their milestones, and continuing to tell their story through photographs has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. It's relationships like these that remind me photography isn't just about taking pictures—it's about preserving the moments that become your family's history.
