Nearly a Decade of Headshots, New Chapters, and Lasting Friendships
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is building relationships that last far beyond a single session. Joan is a wonderful example of that.
For nearly a decade, she has trusted me with her professional headshots, returning every few years as her career has grown and evolved. As an author and professor at the U.S. Naval War College, she has needed portraits for everything from professional publications and speaking engagements to university materials and personal projects. Each session has reflected a different season of her life, and it's been a privilege to help create images that feel both polished and authentically her.
What I love most is that our sessions have never been limited to traditional headshots. We've mixed professional portraits with more relaxed, creative images that capture her personality beyond her résumé. Some of my favorite photographs of Joan are the ones where she's simply enjoying the moment—proof that a headshot session can be both professional and fun.
Over the years, our relationship has grown beyond business portraits. I've had the honor of photographing her family on location, including her son, his wife, and their growing family as they welcomed the next generation. Watching clients move through different chapters of life—from career milestones to family milestones—is one of the greatest joys of what I do.

Twenty Years of Milestones, Memories, and Building a Brand
One of the greatest gifts photography has given me is the opportunity to grow alongside the incredible people I photograph. Sarah is one of those clients who has become so much more than someone standing in front of my camera.
Our story began nearly twenty years ago when I photographed her wedding. At the time, neither of us could have imagined that one celebration would become a friendship and two decades of documenting life's biggest milestones together.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of photographing her professional headshots, restaurant openings, family portraits, and countless moments in between. I've watched her family grow from newlyweds to parents, photographing both of her children from the time they were babies. In fact, we already have plans to photograph her oldest daughter's senior portraits—a moment that feels especially meaningful because I can still picture taking her baby photographs in their first apartment. It's hard to believe how quickly the years have passed.
Just as I've watched her family grow, I've also had the privilege of watching Sarah grow professionally. Today, she is a successful REALTOR® specializing in luxury real estate, helping clients buy and sell homes across the country. As her career has evolved, I've been honored to create headshots and branding images that reflect each new chapter, ensuring her photographs grow alongside her business.
What makes me happiest, though, isn't simply watching a career flourish—it's seeing the remarkable person she's become. Sarah is thoughtful, genuine, hardworking, and one of the kindest people you'll ever meet.
